It’s not possible for everyone, of course, but it is apparently possible for some people to opt out of the monetary world. I’ve touched on the Freegan phenomenon before (in Squatter with a Lexus) and although I could never do it myself (for one thing, I’ve got a kid to put through college!), I do enjoy the idea. We’re always attaching dollar amounts to everything, and maybe it doesn’t have to be that way, at least not everything, all the time.
