Complete title: Jonathan: a proper story involving a black coat, a key, and the ramblings of an insane old man, a short story you can get for free from Smashwords. Short review: it’s a great story, period. A proper story, in fact, of the kind they used to write “back in the day”. It could sit nicely on a shelf with anything by Dickens, Poe, O Henry or Du Maupassant.
I’d read it a couple of months ago, and then again last night I read it out loud as bedtime reading to my son and it reads very well that way.
Two of his other stories are Indoors, a good old-fashioned haunted house story, and Reminiscence, a story about an old man with one last job to do. All of these read like classic story telling of the British Victorian era.
